Project Manager, The Natural Capital Scorecard Project

Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, based in Brunswick , Maine , is seeking to fill a 16-month Project Manager position for the Natural Capital Scorecard Project. This project will develop an indicator-based system to assess sustainability of dairy farms in New England and New York . The scorecard will be developed and field tested throughout the region.

DUTIES : provide leadership in creation of the Natural Capital Scorecard; maintain relationships partner organizations and individual farmers, produce monthly progress reports; initiate contacts and meetings with participating farmers; conduct on-the-ground environmental, sociological, and economic field surveys of dairy farms in New England and New York; maintain high standards of data collection and recording; manage project data; statistically analyze survey results; report results, orally and in writing; work with stakeholders to develop the Scorecard content for dairy farms; communicate weekly with division head on work progress; and travel extensively throughout New England and New York.

QUALIFICATIONS : Must have broad dairy farm experience; have a background in the two of the following areas: agro-ecosystems, rural sociology, and resource economics; very good communication, management, people, and leadership skills; excellent computer skills (MS-Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, SAS statistical software (preferred), ARCView GIS (preferred); must be organized and task oriented, hardworking, possess meticulous standards of data collection and recording; must be in excellent physical condition, be able to work long, non-standard hours in rural field locations under adverse weather conditions; must possess a valid drivers license and have a good driving record. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with northeastern dairy farm experience. Requires a graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in animal sciences, resource economics, or related field. Closing Date : as soon as filled; Start date : as soon as possible, or before Jan 15, 2008. Position ends April 2009 but may provide opportunity for continuation. Salary : $40,000-50,000 per year, depending on experience.
